Short answer
ServiceNow's AI-native packaging puts every product on one of three tiers: Foundation, Advanced or Prime. The tiers differ in how much AI can do on its own, and AI use is metered in assists from a contracted pool. Decide tier fit by tower, from real usage, before your renewal date.

What each tier covers
ServiceNow Docs (AI-native SKU overview, updated Sep 10, 2026) describes Foundation as "AI skills, routine AI agents", Advanced as "agentic workflows" and Prime as "autonomous AI workforce". Net-new agents are built at Prime, in AI Agent Studio. The full table is in our tier comparison.
The meter
ServiceNow Community (Jul 7, 2026) says a simple skill consumes one assist and a complex agentic workflow 25 or more, from a pool on a 365-day burn-down. Development and sub-production use count too. Name one owner for the pool.
The timing
According to licensing advisers (Redress Compliance, Jun 24, 2026), not ServiceNow, legacy editions reached end of sale on Jul 1, 2026, with conversion at renewal. Info-Tech Research Group (Apr 13, 2026) advises building your own cost model before committing to Prime.
How to decide
List each tower's uses, mark which need skills, workflows or autonomy, forecast assists for each, and make Prime a per-tower business case. Our renewal guide has a nine-month plan, and we sell no licenses.
